NIL -- Next In Line

NIL is not your typical Hiphop & R&B recording artist.  Nil was born in Harlem, NY -- raised in Savannah, GA, and is currently living in Broward County.  More than just music, Nil is a motivational positive speaker and a beacon of light, who speaks life into people. Nil’s purpose in life is not only to entertain the world -- but to change the world with his words of encouragement.

Nil has changed peoples lives with motivational words.  He gives words of encouragement and is an ear to most people who are going through hard times in life.  Nil is currently working in his community raising awareness in regards to the Covenant House in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Covenant house is a safe haven for children of all ages who are runaway teens & children escaping abuse neglect, sex trafficking victims, and so much more.

Nil and his team recently did a virtual concert and all of the proceeds went to the Covenant House.  While Nil understands that he may not be able to save the world, his mission is to reach and touch as many people as he can.  What's next?  Finishing the EP, working on a documentary, and -- get this -- formation of non-profit called Healing Broken Souls.  "NIL wants to leave the planet better than he found it," his manager lets us know confidently. Yes, it's more than music.

Stay tuned for the exclusive interview!

KEINGLIFE

Kei's best friend started her on the path of her pen name.  Tired of being tired, moving but being idle -- she added "ing" to it because she wanted to be a verb.  Thus, "KeingLife" was born.

"My poetry writes itself," she says, as she reveals that she was severely bullied as a child due to her vernacular, skin color, and weight.  This powerful poet composed a poetry book at the age of 16 and is currently working on several projects.  One of which is Word Up Wednesdays!

D.A. Simpson

A returning poet from Season 3, D. A. Simpson has been writing from early childhood, always about the beauty of nature. This poet currently resides in a small coastal town in East Devon, UK.  It is known as the Jurassic Coast and is dubbed "an area of outstanding natural beauty." A very green place owing much to rain and being on the coast, it experiences a lot of gales. There is a magnificent coastline of stunning sea views beneath vast open skies.

It is in this enchanted environment that D.A. Simpson spends many hours gazing at the beauty all around, which inevitably leads to poetry. D.A. Simpson has a great love for unusual words and enjoys incorporating them into poems. The poetry often begins as a straightforward description of nature but frequently turns into spiritual, philosophical and metaphorical musings.

Flipside Daniels

A man a few words, unless, of course -- there is poetry involved.

Flipside Daniels is a former teacher with many stories to tell.  Some of which are heartbreaking.

He has regaled many with tales from his teaching career, and like many of our educators -- some of these tales are pieces of a puzzle with an explanation to some of the questions of why.  But not all.

We look forward to hearing more from Mr. Flipside Daniels.  Follow him on Instagram @flipside_poet.

Toria

Speaking of challenges and struggle, Toria does such a wonderful job of explaining the challenges of dealing with chronic illness in her piece "Warrior." She started to write poetry just over a year ago as a distraction for her pain.  Unable to tolerate analgesia, she began to write poetry.  She says that she has no idea of where it comes from.

“When they see me coming they know it’s me. I walk, talk, and breathe poetry...”

--SublimeLuv

Facebook is a wonderful place to come across talented poets.  SublimeLuv is a perfect example of this.

From SublimeLuv:

'ROAR of a Lioness | Philosophy for the Queens ' is a visual chapbook centered around the theme of the “personal is political.” My story overlaps with many of our collective stories as Black women. The title ‘ROARof a Lioness’ is the release into the world, the scream, warcry, and loud proclamation of my personal history that has made me all that I am today. It is also the title of my self published chapbook that was released in 2015.

My story as told through poetry in this visual chapbook touches intimately, and overlaps, with many of these struggles we all battle against as Black women. My words are powerfully dedicated with Luv to my fellow Queens. My wish for this project is that it impacts my sisters; that it supports Black women existing confidently as the Goddesses we are while giving us the strength to laugh in the faces of those that tell us we aren’t sacred.
